Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner is designed for use before staining new, soft and porous wood surfaces, such as aspen, cherry, birch, poplar or pine with an oil-based stain. It penetrates the grain of the wood to promote uniform acceptance of oil-based wood stain and reduces streaking and blotching to help ensure beautiful, even coverage.

Questions & answers
When do I apply the stain?
Between 30 minutes and 2 hours after the conditioner goes on. No sooner than 30 minutes, and no later than 2 hours.
How many coats?
One coat, brushed or rolled on.
Will it change the color?
Yes. It dries with an amber tone.
Should I use it on maple?
General Finishes does not recommend conditioning maple; it closes the grain further and keeps the color from taking. Use Gel Stain or Water-Based Wood Stain on maple without a conditioner.
Can it go over an existing finish?
No. It is for raw wood, indoors.
