Questions & answers
Does Glaze Effects need a topcoat?
Yes. The glaze is the color; a topcoat protects it. Satin Finishing Wax can be used instead, but it is less durable, needs yearly upkeep, and has to be removed before you can topcoat later.
Can I glaze right over Gel Stain?
No. Seal the Gel Stain with a coat of topcoat first so the glaze does not pull color from it, and wait 72 hours before putting a water-based product over the oil-based stain.
Which colors are there?
Van Dyke Brown, Pitch Black, Winter White, Burnt Umber and Smokey Gray. The colors can be mixed with each other.
How do I make a custom gray from the black?
Add a small amount of General Finishes Snow White Milk Paint or White Water-Based Wood Stain. Professionals can use Enduro White Poly.
Can I mix Glaze Effects with Water-Based Wood Stain?
No. Do not mix Glaze Effects with General Finishes Water-Based Wood Stain, including Pre-Stain Natural.
How long between coats?
Dry to the touch in 30+ minutes and ready to recoat after 1+ hour. Brush, roll or spray.
