Mylands High Build Friction Polish is a shellac-based finish made for the lathe rather than the brush. Sold worldwide as the market-leading shellac friction polish for wood turners, it's applied in small amounts with a lint-free cotton cloth while the piece is still turning — the friction between cloth and spinning wood is what builds and sets the finish, coat by coat, right there on the machine.
Once you've built the polish to the depth you want, hold the edge of a carnauba wax stick against the still-turning piece to lay down a protective wax layer, then burnish with a dry cloth for the final shine. Because the whole process happens on the lathe, you build the shine as you go rather than waiting through separate drying and recoat cycles the way you would with a wiped or sprayed finish. It's a traditional choice for bowls, pens, boxes, and other small turned pieces.
